2nd Qtr 2019 Mileage Report

I know the orangatan doesn't have anything to do with mileage, but thats the new rollercoaster Tigris in the background. Typical mileage this past quarter as we continue to use the motorcycles sparingly. The majority of our travel is in the new minivan at close to 70%. My biking to work is the other major part of the commuting with 20% of the miles traveled. We have not gone on any trips this past quarter as we are saving our leave time for our big transatlantic cruise in the fall.

This month of November, Busch Gardens Tampa is offering FREE COFFEE to season passholders available at any cafeterias, except Sultans Sweets. Just show your pass to the cashier to redeem this deal, one per day per passholder.

FREE BEER At Busch Gardens Tampa

remember the free beer samples at Busch Gardens??

Who doesn't love #free stuff? Remember when I told you about the cool promotion at Busch Gardens Tampa in July and August? Well, they're back at it for September and October. This months promotion if you're a season pass holder is a free 6 x 8 photo - each day! That's right you can get a photo one day on Kumba roller coaster, the next day you could get one on Gwazi, and the next day on Montu; or you could get one by the adventure photo staff as you walk in the front entrance. Anyway, this is a great way to get some nice photos taken.

I can't wait for October though. Busch Gardens is having their own sort of Octoberfest by providing season pass holders with a FREE BEER at Crown Colony House, or any other beer stand each and everyday in October 2013. They haven't offered #free beer since Feb 1, 2010 when they ended their free samples of fine libations. But now is your chance to catch up. You can get 2 ten oz samples or 1 20oz beer (Budweiser, Bud Light or Leinenkugel) between 11 am and 4 pm.

How great is that, just like old times.

My Weight Loss July Update

Well, its been a month since I posted about our weight loss since our cruise in May. If you remember, both DH and I had gained some weight and were determined to lose it. It's not necessarily a goal to lose weight fast, but by slightly modifying our diet and and increasing our exercise we did manage to lose five pounds in June.

July has been a little tougher because of the wonderful free sweet and salty snack deal at Busch Gardens this past month. We've been walking there several times a week and of course we have to get the free snack. Popcorn is the healthiest snack they offer, and then the frozen fruit bar could be considered healthy too. But, we've splurged a couple times for the dippin dots cookies and cream ice cream treat, and the snickers ice cream bar. So, there's that. Plus the fact that Ryan Newman won the NASCAR race at Indianapolis this past week and his sponsor gave away a free Bloomin Onion at Outback on Monday. I know all these excuses are lame, but that's the way life is. So, we only lost 3 more pounds.

The good thing is we've been eating healthy recipes and lots of fresh produce. Our daily healthy snack is some fruit. DH learned this cool way to cut melons on the cruise ship. The chefs just cut off the top and the bottom of the each round melon and then it sits nice on your cutting board so you can just slice off the rind, without wasting any fruity flesh. Then he just grinds up the rinds in the food processor with our other compost items and pours the whole mess into the garden composter outside.

So we've lost eight pounds in 8 weeks, for an average 1 pound a week. I would like to lose about eight or ten more pounds so I'll continue to eat healthy foods, drink plenty of water and exercise daily. These 3 diet tips are all you need to know.

Free Summer Treats at Busch Gardens #Tampa

Since we live close to Busch Gardens, we go there after work for a walk a few times a week. From the parking lot, through the park and back to the car is over 2 miles. We usually don't even bother to go on any rides, but occasionally we'll stop and see a show if its new. I like to enjoy all the pretty flowers and landscaping, and it's interesting to people watch since most of the patrons are foreigners from South America now. It's winter there and this is their winter break, so huge groups of young teens who don't speak English follow around their guides with flags. It's actually annoying if you get stuck behind a group of fifty to a hundred people like that, so it's one of our challenges to stay ahead of them.

One of the frugal things we do this month, is to get our free daily sweet or salty snack. As season pass holders we're entitled to show our pass at any snack stand and get a free ice cream bar, popcorn, caramel corn, frozen fruit bar or dippin dots ice cream. Usually, we never spend any money at Busch Gardens, we only go for our exercise or to socialize with friends (most have a pass too!) Anyway, its been tough on the diet to get these snacks and stay on track with our diets. It means only a very light dinner and we also throw away the popcorn at half a bag. I know you're thinking, just get half a bag to be frugal. But that doesn't work because then you get a 1/2 bag of old maids and burnt kernels. You have to be able to shake and settle the bag so the good stuff (light and puffy) goes to the top and the heavy unpopped old maids go to the bottom.

Did you get your postcard telling you about the free snacks?
Anyway, this week the afternoon rains have been relentless. Luckily, I've managed to have a weather window to ride my bike home safely and dry, but those storm clouds roll in shortly after. Yesterday when we finished our Publix shop we were going to go for a walk but the rain rolled in, so we just went to the quick drop off area of Busch Gardens and went to the snack stand at the front of the park. We didn't even walk, just went and got our free ice cream. I like to think its being frugal, but some may think of it as being cheap. But as you know frugal is saving money with planning, being cheap is saving money at the expense of others. I guess you could argue that our savings were at the cost of Busch Gardens, but it's their deal - they threw it out there for those who are aware to take advantage of. We asked the employee at the booth how many free snacks they gave out daily and he said not many. He said only 15% of the people have redeemed the offer. That actually seems like a lot to me, since the only notification of this offer was a postcard mailed in June. It's not posted anywhere in the park or on the website, so if you threw away your junk mail you missed out on free stuff all summer.

By the way, don't miss out on next months freebie - Free soda beverage or 20oz Dasani water every day in August.

Free New Years Eve Concert at Busch Gardens

Those of you in Tampa still deciding what to do on New Years Eve may want to consider going to The Guess Who concert at Busch Gardens. It should be a nice warm evening and the FREE (with park admission) concert starts at 10:30 pm in Gwazi Park and ends with fireworks at midnight. Gwazi Park gates open at 9:30pm Friday.

The Guess Who is a great oldies band and is sure to be an evening of hits. We're thinking of taking a cab, or riding our motorcycle to avoid the traffic and closed parking lots, so if you plan to go it better not be at the last minute. Based on past years holiday concerts, the parking lot will probably close about 7 or so.

Survivor

If you're sticking around Tampa Bay this weekend, here's a fun free event. Busch Gardens is hosting a concert on Sunday Sept 5 in Gwazi field at 4pm. The old eighties band Survivor will be playing for FREE (included with park admission).

$10 off $20 Busch Gardens Tampa

What a great deal! If you're a passport member you probably received an offer in the mail this week that you might have overlooked. Its an offer for $10 off $20 to use towards purchase in your favorite restaurant, on merchandise in the park or any of the up-close or behind the scenes tours. It does NOT exclude alcohol, so you could get four beers ($5.49 ea) and only pay for two! This offer can't be combined with any other discount, and can't be used toward admission or games.
It is valid thru September 6, 2010.

To get your coupon, just go to one of the self serve kiosks outside the entrance and scan the bar code of the letter, click on Redeem Pre-purchased Internet Passport Vouchers and your coupon will print out.

Enjoy the Park!

Free Food But No Free Beer

For our daily exercise yesterday, we decided to take a lap around Busch Gardens. I happened to notice all sorts of people with the bright neon wristbands indicating they had purchased the Play All Day & Dine For Free offer. Since the takeover of Anheuser Busch last December by Merlin, there have not been many improvements and upgrades in the theme park. Granted they did have the spring concert series, but nothing special on July 4th this year - just fireworks.

Anyway, I find it ironic that they stopped serving free beer samples in January of 2009 and their attendance tanked. The former hospitality house has been empty most days, and no one dances to Dr. Dave or Andre as they play the piano by the bird gardens. But now they want to get more business since it has not been the same since. So if you're willing to shell out $74.99 for a full price ticket, they'll give you a $30 meal plan. The plan is actually pretty good, and if you can be frugal and "share" the food with your partner, its not a bad deal.

But Busch Gardens certainly doesn't act like they appreciate Florida residents at their park. Even people who don't spend hundreds of dollars when they visit, are good for making it seem like the place is crowded and a cool place to be. They take away the free beer, but now they give away free food. I've got to think the food deal costs them more than a few 10 oz beers.

By the way, if you haven't gone to the Summer Nights events, you're missing out on some good entertainment. Jeff Civilico the juggler, was there last year and now has shows on Fri, Sat & Sun only. Each of the three daily shows is different and funny. I like the 6:30 pm show where he gets male audience members to help him get up on his unicycle.

We haven't been to the Kinetix show yet, but were intrigued by the preview of three jugglers with glowing face paint and glow in the dark clubs. We're planning on seeing it this weekend.

Meanwhile, I'm waiting for the free beer.

Free Busch Gardens Preschooler 1 Year Pass

Busch Gardens Tampa is opening a new Seasame Street Safari of Fun March 27th! To celebrate this they are offering free kids Annual passes for children 5 and under that are FL residents.   You can register and sign up online.

Free Rhymes with Wheeee!
If you have a child 5 and younger, a Free Commemorative Busch Gardens Preschool Pass is waiting! It's all they need to explore the wonders of Busch Gardens and our all-new Sesame Street Safari of Fun…for all of 2010. Elmo and Ernie, can't wait!

Just go here!
In order for the pass to be valid you need a copy of their birth certificate when you take them to the park.  Just to verify age.
Busch Gardens is a great family park now, since they got rid of the free beer. No more old folks like us hanging around taking up tables and benches, while we have a cold bud. But its a nice place for grandchildren.

They just created a new parking area in the preferred parking lot for "Families with Strollers" and put up pretty pink signs along the whole front row of preferred parking.

We go every week to see the free concerts and have a nice walk. Pat Benatar is playing this Sunday in Gwazi Park at 4pm.
