My Publix Trip - Paid $0.79, Saved $47

This week there are a few things I want to get, but don't really need so its a matter of space. This shop was pretty small, just the salad stuff so we can make our lunches for next week. But later I'll probably get some of the Farm Rich frozen snacks for munching on Friday nights around the fire.

 

I happened to luck out on getting the newer coupons that are out there - The Winn Dixie Moments made Possible Through Early Detection is out in the stores in Tampa, right inside the door next to the regular ad. This has plenty of P&G coupons to stack with the MQs that are coming out this weekend. However, if your store reads the terms carefully, you'll be limited to 1 WD coupon per transaction, so you'll have to mix up your brands. Plan your scenarios now for the P&G pink cookware rebate (Spend $30 on one receipt starting 9/30/12). I'm planning on getting some hair color that is on sale for the current Yellow Advantage Flyer for another week, and possibly some Cover Girl and Pantene, Olay.

 

I also found the new stocking spree sheet of coupons right by the door at Publix. These have a stacking coupon for Puffs tissues that make it $0.25/box after the new MQ this weekend, plus the PQ. It was also mentioned on Slickdeals that the Surf 100 oz laundry detergent is a good deal with the stocking spree $1/1 PQ stacked with the $1/1 MQ in the 9/30 RP, makes it $1.98 each.

 

Anyway, my shop cost me $0.79 on my Publix GC, and I saved almost $47 - a 98% savings rate.

Vote NO on All 11 Florida Constitution Amendments

Today we received the voter guide for the 11 amendments that will be on the Florida ballot in the newspaper. I wanted to research these and make sure I voted the best way for our state. As it turns out, all of these amendments are harmful to the citizens of Florida and I will vote NO on all amendments. You should too. But if you want to do your own research the amendments are listed HERE.

 

Amendment 1 would allow Florida to opt out of the federal health care reform. You like being able to keep your sons and daughters on your health insurance until they are 26? The Legislature would stop that. You like receiving your rebate check from insurers that exceed the percentage of profit they are allowed to take? The Legislature and governor would put an end to that!

 

Amendments 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, and 11 are part of the tea party/GOP effort to destroy government services and the quality of life by reducing revenue. They sound like compassionate efforts (reducing property tax, limiting growth in state revenue, increasing a business tax exemption). We need these property taxes to fund state services.

 

Amendment 5 is a raw power grab by the Legislature over the courts. It adds the requirement that Supreme Court justices appointed by the governor need to be confirmed by the Senate. It also allows the Legislature to repeal a court rule by a simple majority instead of the two-thirds majority now required. In important cases, the Florida Supreme Court has been a check on the extremism of the Legislature.

 

Amendment 8 Called the "Religious Freedom" Amendment, it is nothing of the sort. There are no cases of anyone being denied their religious freedom. It is only about allowing religious organizations to receive unlimited tax dollars for anything and everything from church services to schools. As it should do, currently, the Florida Constitution prohibits the direct or indirect use of tax dollars for religion.

 

Amendment 6, part of the GOP War on Women and yet another attempt to ban all abortions

 

Amendment 12 is about which student should represent the State University System on its Board of Governors.

 

These 11 Amendments are part of disturbing trend in Florida to place ultra-radical priorities near-permanently in the Constitution. They are issues more properly left to legislation, if addressed at all. 

 

Reject them all.

My Publix Shop - Saved 94%

This was a pretty regular weekly salad supply trip. I have rainchecks for the butoni but of course the store was out after the run for that moneymaker last week. They were also out of all the CG moneymakers and the Sundown vitamins. So I was forced to pull out the Snausages rain check to get some overage. I was lucky that the Publix pet club coupons included a PQ to stack with the BOGO from the coupons.com savings club BOGO. This made my trip reasonable, still paying less than five dollars.

 

 

I wish I could remember which insert had the $0.60/1 MQ for the Kleenex, (I think it was 8-5 ss) I know it was from the free spanish newspaper in the last couple months. Sometimes they have that extra spanish smartsource insert, I know it was not in the one from last week, but the one before. I did see the One Stop, One Store booklet cardboard display but it was empty. My store was probably holding the booklets behind the CS service counter so you need to ask for them. The day before I did manage to get some from the display. They are definitely here in the stores in Tampa, so ask. I also saw the display for the Italian coupons (butoni PQ) in the back of the store in the meat department. It was a weird place for a cardboard display, but there it was.

 

 

Anyway, it was a good shop except I needed "numbers" due to the high amount of stacking. Not really a big deal but I prefer not to need to get numbers. I spent $4.64 on my Publix GC and saved $64.07 (93.25%). I also impressed the young USF college boys behind me in line with the great savings. I also appreciate it when the cashier praises me too with a "good job" as they hand over the receipt.
