I was kind of nervous getting the dog treats and the right guard and using 10 TQ's and 10 PQ's but it was not an issue at my store. The new Coupon Policy is supposed to go into effect on Monday, May 23rd. My two home stores both allow the same competitors I used before so I don't anticipate problems. The only potential issue is the limits on TQ's and the wording "one coupon per purchase per customer" on the PQ's. Some stores seem to be limiting customers to using only 1 PQ. I didn't have any of those coupons so I didn't bother asking what my stores' position on those are. I think I'll wait and see and figure it out some time in line. I figure its better to ask forgiveness instead of asking permission when the probable answer is one I don't want to hear.

Anyway, I ended up spending $0.26 plus tax and walked out with 6 bags of products and a $10 gift card, saving over $130.

Ride With Me To Work Today

This week was ride your bike to work week, and today is Ride Your Bike To Work Day. I actually almost always ride my bike to work, but I thought I'd bring a camera along and take a couple pictures so you could ride with me today.

Its just as easy to get ready in the morning when I plan to ride and it doesn't require that I wake up any earlier than usual. This is because my ride to work is only 5 miles so it takes about twenty minutes, just a few minutes longer than if I drive. If you have farther to ride you'll need to figure about 4 minutes per mile to ride, so if you have to travel 10 miles you'll need to give yourself 40 minutes to ride, whereas you might only need 20 to drive. Anyway, I pack my salad and yogurt and soda for a lunch the evening before and my lunch bag is ready to go in the morning. I bring a fresh clean bra, undies, and a shirt each day to work. I wear the socks I'm going to wear all day. I keep about 6 or 7 pairs of pants and capris at work in a desk drawer to wear at work. I also have 5 pairs of shoes under my desk to wear with my variety of pants. I wear those funny black shorts with the padded butt, along with my Keen Commuter Cycling Sandals (which I highly recommend) and a bright neon yellow shirt. Once I get to work, I change into work clothes.

So once I've packed my clothes and lunch in my panniers, I'm ready to go. The ride has nice calming segments in neighborhoods at the beginning and end which is nice. The middle 3 miles are on a busy 50 mph road with a 3 ft shoulder that I can safely ride on. The route brings me past a busy high school and the teen drivers are my biggest worry. They have almost all the accidents I see on my way to work and I hope that one doesn't hit me from behind. I'm wearing my hi vis yellow shirt, and I use my rear view mirror all the time to see whats coming up behind me. I ride on the right side of the road with traffic, and stop at all the lights too.

At first its a little intimidating to ride with the fast traffic, those big diesel dump trucks and the city buses - but you get used to it. I would like to encourage you to try to figure out a way you can ride your bike to work. It really can help you feel better about yourself and your health will improve. Next time you're driving to work, notice the road you're on and see if it has a shoulder to ride on. If not, is there a sidewalk? If not, is there a side road that is parallel to your route you could take? Probably. It's actually pretty easy to figure out a safe route to most places, but it might take a few minutes more to get there.

So there's another week left in the month, why don't you try to ride your bike next week?

7 of The Cheapest Cities In Europe

Now that the summer season is slowly approaching, it's time to start thinking about that dream summer vacation you have been planning over the long, cold, wintery months.
If you're worried about draining all of your savings for a short getaway this summer, then fret no more. It may surprise you to learn that many cities in Europe, even the touristy ones, can be incredibly cheap if you do the proper research and calculations beforehand.
If you're struggling to think of where you can go in Europe this summer, here are seven cities in Europe that are not only easy on the eyes, but easy on your money as well:
1.       Bucharest (Romania)
If you have a fascination with Vlad the Impaler AKA Dracula then be sure to check out Romania's capital city, Bucharest. Hostels cost as little as $10 USD a night even during the peak tourist season, however, be forewarned that Eastern Europe may not be the best area to travel alone, especially if you are a backpacking female.
2.       Sofia (Bulgaria)
Again, this is another area in the world that is probably not the wisest area to travel alone in, but it's still dirt cheap nonetheless. The majority of hostels are in the $10 to 15 USD range, which is a fraction of the cost of a hostel in cities like Barcelona, Amsterdam or Paris.
3.       Istanbul (Turkey)
Travellers have nothing but great things to say about travelling to Turkey, not only because the culture is extremely unique but because the cost of travelling in Istanbul is fairly cheap as well. Some hostels cost as little as $7 USD per night, but the majority of top-rated hostels cost $10 per night, making Istanbul well worth the time if you're running out of funds during your trip.
4.       Budapest (Hungary)
Sure it's a little out of the way but hostel costs in Budapest range between $5 to $10 USD a night, and most of which are considered to be some of the best in Central Europe.
5.       Prague (Czech Republic)
As long as you avoid the touristy areas of this popular Central European city and you know where to find cheap hostels, you may end up paying as little as $7 USD a night just to stay in this "city of fairy tales."
6.       Krakow (Poland)
If you're hoping to check out Auschwitz during your travels, or even if you have a fascination with Polish culture and architecture, hostels in Krakow can cost as little as $5 USD, even for a private room!
7.       Edinburgh (Scotland)
Sure the United Kingdom can be extremely expensive, especially if you're visiting cities like London, Brighton or Bath. But after an eight hour drive up north you will start to see prices drop down to as little as $7 to $10 USD a night to stay in Scotland's capital city; (and the costs are relatively the same in Glasgow as well).

Stamp Out Hunger - Donate Foods Sat. 5/14

In your mailbox today, you'll probably receive some information and a bag about Help Stamp Out Hunger. Its an annual food drive with help from the United States Post Office, where you can put out a bag of non perishables (from your stockpiles) by your mailbox, and your letter carrier will pick it up. The bags will be donated to local food shelters and pantries.

I've already got a bag put together of pasta, cereals, koolaid, macaroni & cheese and snack crackers. I suppose they could also use personal care items like body wash, toothpaste and deodorant too, so I'll put together more of that stuff.

More than 50 million Americans are at risk of hunger! Go to www.HelpStampOutHunger.com to learn how you can help. #StampOutHunger.

Google Music Beta

I love google and all their products, so I'm sure I'll love this one too. My blog is google, my email is gmail, my phone numbers are Google Voice, and of course Picasa Web, Google Docs, and YouTube. Now Google just launched it's Music Beta page, and is taking invitation requests, a la Google voice back in the day. Their service won't let you purchase any music just yet, because their negotiations with the record labels has fallen through, for now, but they will allow you to upload up to 20,000 of your own songs to "the cloud" for play from anywhere.
You can get to your personal music collection at home or on the go. Listen from the web or any enabled device with the Music app available from Android Market. Not online? No problem. The songs you've recently played will automatically be available offline. You can also select the specific albums, artists and play lists you want to have available when you're not connected.

The sooner you put in your request, the sooner you'll get your invitation.
